John M. Tedeschi, M.D.

Dr. John M. Tedeschi is a distinguished leader in pediatric medicine, recognized nationally for his contributions to the field. Throughout his 40 years as a pediatrician, he has been devoted to developing new and creative strategies to improve pediatric healthcare, guided by his belief that "children are the future of our society, and their well-being is critical to the future."
A native of Camden, NJ, Dr. Tedeschi is currently Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Advocare, LLC, one of the largest pediatric healthcare providers in the Northeast. He is also Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Virtua In-House Pediatrics (VIP), Children and Adolescent Rapid Emergency Services (CARES), Pediatric Intensive Care Associates (PICA), Newborn Health Associates (NICU Care), and Continuum Health Alliance, a healthcare management company.
Dr. Tedeschi's impact on pediatric medicine throughout his career and at Virtua Health was most recently recognized with the October 2009 launch of The John M. Tedeschi Pediatric Institute at Virtua, a $25 million programmatic and philanthropic initiative designed to improve the health of children at local, state, and national levels. Connecting Virtua's pediatric Centers of Clinical Excellence to a robust research arm that seeks out evidenced-based best practices in pediatric care to advance children's health globally, the Institute elevates Virtua's pediatric program to a world-class level. The John M. Tedeschi Pediatric Institute at Virtua includes service delivery for acute care, pediatric emergency care, ambulatory care, wellness programs, outpatient community programs, day care programs, and research.
In 2002 Dr. Tedeschi was honored as the first recipient of Virtua's "Distinguished Career Award" and "SuperStar Physician of Excellence." Serving on the Medical Executive Committee of Virtua's predecessor organizations for more than 30 years, Dr. Tedeschi was Chief of Pediatrics for Garden State Community Hospital and Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at West Jersey Hospital-Voorhees. He was also President of the Medical Staff of Garden State Community Hospital and later Virtua Health.
Throughout his career, Dr. Tedeschi has spearheaded initiatives to improve healthcare for children of all ages. As founder and Chairman of the Perinatal Cooperative, he improved maternal and neonate healthcare in South Jersey and throughout the state, a mission he continues as a Board member today. He has served as medical director or board member of many community organizations, including the Save the Children Foundation, the Camden County Task Force for Children, and the Alicia Rose "Victorious" Foundation.
Dr. Tedeschi serves on numerous task forces and governing organizations, including the Governor's Task Force for Medical Malpractice, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Virtua Board of Trustees. He chairs several Virtua committees, including the Physician Council, and is a member of the Virtua Facility Planning Committee. He received a gubernatorial appointment as Vice Chairman of the Planning Board for the State of New Jersey Department of Health, served on the Pediatric Clinical Advisory Commission, and chaired the Certificate of Need Process. He has taught at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and the University of Medicine and Dentistry/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Dr. Tedeschi has been recognized as a "Top Doc" by Philadelphia Magazine, New Jersey Monthly Magazine, SJ Magazine, South Jersey Magazine, and Best Doctors in America. He has also been honored with numerous professional awards, including the Frances Black Humanitarian Award in Healthcare and the UMDNJ Distinguished Physician Award.
Dr. Tedeschi received a full academic scholarship to Villanova University and attended Creighton University School of Medicine. His internship and residency were completed at Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ. He is married to Geraldine and has two children, John B. Tedeschi, a pediatrician in his group, and Elizabeth B. Tedeschi, an attorney who practices in Philadelphia.
